Terms and Conditions of Library Use

If you live, work or regularly travel in the Maitland region, and you are a resident of New South Wales you can become a library member.

Library membership is free. There is no minimum age for joining, but those under the age of 16 years require consent from their parent or guardian.

• Library members are required to:
  • Accept responsibility for all borrowed items.
  • Notify library staff if their contact details change.
  • Pay all fees incurred as set out in Council's Fees and Charges schedule.
• Parents and guardians are responsible for children in their care whilst accessing library services, programs or spaces. This includes:
  • The behaviour and wellbeing of children.
  • Internet use by children.
  • Selection and borrowing of library resources by children.
• Any person attending Maitland libraries must behave in a respectful, responsible and considerate manner and not participate in behaviour or conduct likely to disturb or disrupt others. Persons behaving in an inappropriate or disruptive manner may be asked to leave the premises.
• Any person copying library materials is responsible for observing the provisions of the Copyright Act 1968 with respect to materials in copyright.
• If any of the above terms and conditions are breached, the library reserves the right to restrict or ban access to library services, programs or spaces or terminate library membership.
• The terms and conditions of library use can change at any time without notice.

Joining Online

1. Read our Conditions of Membership above and click Accept.
2. Enter your details into the online registration form. People under 16 years of age require a parent or guardian to take responsibility for their account.
3. You'll receive an email with your membership number, allowing you to log in and reserve items online, use our App to borrow items, and access our online resources.
4. If you’d like a physical library card and membership pack, just ask a team member at any of our library locations.
5. Enjoy the benefits of membership, with access to thousands of items, online and in person.

Regarding your privacy

All personal information provided is used only to process your registration and is not used for any other purpose. Access to this information is governed by Maitland City Council's Privacy Statement.
