The Battle of Long Tan: He's coming south : the attack on Sydney Harbour.

1. The Battle Of Long Tan: true story behind the heroic deeds of a small group of young soldiers in one of the most pivotal, dramatic and shocking battles of the Vietnam War. Their bravery placed a new glow on the ANZAC legend. South Vietnam: 18th August 1966 in the gathering dusk, 108 young and inexperienced Australian and New Zealand soldiers were separated and surrounded by an overwhelming force of more than 2500 battle hardened Viet Cong Guerrillas and North Vietnamese soldiers. They bravely fought for their lives in the pouring rain amid the mud and shattered landscape of a rubber plantation called Long Tan. 2. He's Coming South: Sydney Harbour Sunday May 31, 1942. Before dawn breaks, 21 Men will be killed, 4 will take their own lives, 2 will disappear. The War was brought right to Sydney's doorstep in May 1942 when the Japanese launched a surprise submarine attack. Many of the details and theories of this important wartime episode have remained shrouded in mystery until now. 3. M24: The story of the attack on Sydney Harbour by three Japanese midget submarines is well known by most Australians, and many can even recite the detail; May 31, 1942, the worst days of the war, the sinking of the Kuttabul, 21 ratings killed, two subs sunk and recovered, and the one that disappeared. The fate of the missing submarine, M24, has been one of the great maritime sagas, one of the most intriguing tales of the war, a puzzle which has teased and perplexed historians for 63 years. Now, it seems the mystery has been solved. According to this documentary film the wreck of the sub lies in about 20m of water just off the mouth of Broken Bay, east of Lion island. If the discovery can be conclusively authenticated, it will shed new light on an critical episode in our history.
