Samantha Barlow, policewoman and mother of two young children, was brutally attacked with a brick on her way to work at Kings Cross Police Station and left for dead. Her injuries were horrendous, and she came close to death. She went through twenty-two months of rehab, for both physical and head-trauma injuries, and finally triumphantly returned to work. Her attacker was eventually caught after an extensive manhunt. Samantha's husband Laurence, an inspector, documented their journey. The book is partly an insider's view of policing in inner-city Sydney and partly a story of inspirational recovery. The couple speak of their ordeal and survival, and the personal price they've paid to be in the police force.
