The first eleven episodes of Season 4 of Packed to the Rafters trace the family's fortunes as they attempt to rebuild their lives in the aftermath of Melissa's death. Strong family bonds ensure that traumitised Ben (HUGH SHERIDAN) receives the warmest support as he returns from a restorative roadtrip and takes his first steps back into the work-force. Slowly he learns to smile again and develps a growing friendship with his new boss's daughter Emma (ZOE CRAMOND). Julie (REBECCA GIBNEY) and Dave (ERIK THOMSON) menawhile are forced to deal with the consequences for Rachel (JESSICA MARAIS) and Jake (JAMES STEWART) of a dangerous accusation flung at him by a drunken young woman he encounters on a rugby weekend away. Rachel's feelings for Jake are tested to the limit, especially whne her boss throws into the confusing mix the chance of a lifetime to work in New York. Julie and Dave also address the challenge of Dave's father Tom's (JOHN HOWARD) release from prison and the comic and dramatic ramifications for their family when he comes to stay. Julie meanwhile finds a new best friend in Donna (MERRIDY EASTMAN), though their initial exchanges are hilariously unpromising.
